Far too many skilled therapeutic practitioners struggle to build and maintain their businesses. Whether it’s a lack of business education or a mindset about the nature of business that gets in their way, they’re denied a right livelihood and their community is denied the benefits of their healing work. We want as many people as possible to have access to highly effective therapeutic work. That means having plenty of successful, highly skilled therapists to serve them.

Solo therapeutic businesses are not the same as businesses that sell a product or service. We are successful manual therapists in private practice, and we've found that the same skills we bring to our practice are what propelled us to business success. Our treatment paradigm is a useful guide to building a business that adapts and thrives over time.

Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business is a focused exploration aimed at practitioners in private practice. As we write in our introduction, “Our fellow manual therapists, such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, and massage therapists are a natural fit for our approach. Acupuncturists, energy workers, hair stylists and estheticians, personal trainers, and movement instructors have also successfully used our approach. Those who see clients in person, and those who work remotely, will benefit. All that’s required is that you are dedicated to your own and your clients’ growth and self-knowledge, and you are in private practice.”

Praise for Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business

"I highly recommend Elements for all healers and practitioners, and especially for those who are trying to start their own business or who already have their own business and are in transition or struggling."
Anita Moorjani, Speaker and New York Times Best-Selling Author

"Finally, a book that provides solid business advice tailored to the therapeutic practitioner! Having taught and mentored thousands of CST therapists across the last 33 years, I have seen again and again that being an excellent manual therapist does not always equate to having good business sense. So Robyn's and Kate’s book is a wonderful resource for all of us. They understand not only how to be successful in business, but how to teach it to others in a clear, concise way. And I love that they continually remind each of us to utilize the inner navigational system of our body to guide us in our businesses, so that we are fulfilling and meeting the needs of our clients, even as we build monetary success."

“Wow! What a generous resource Robyn Scherr and Kate Mackinnon have created!
Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business is a must read for anyone considering starting a business or expanding a business in the healing arts. With heart and honesty Robyn and Kate provide a roadmap to creating a business that is both doable and inspirational. Their advice will prompt even the most marketing averse people to grow their client lists in ways that feel authentic and in alignment with their goals. I love so many things about this book but perhaps the most impactful is the way the authors give you permission to build a business that fits you—quirks and all.”
Jacquelyn Fletcher Johnson, Author and Educator

"Kate Mackinnon and co-author Robyn Scherr help practitioners define and develop a successful therapeutic business that adapts, thrives, and grows with you. I love how they helped me define success in terms that align with my calling and offered truly helpful tips and strategies for growing my business in a manner that works for me. My first response to this book was enormous relief - finally, someone was talking to me about how to support and grow my business in a way that is both spiritually aligned and practically effective. Thank you, Kate and Robyn!"
Janet Myatt, Spiritual Counselor, Healer, Teacher, Author

"The clear and valuable information in
Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business has been a game-changer for my business. Kate and Robyn have created a practical guide that invites me to explore and delve deep within myself to discover what is meaningful for me. As a result, I have built a business container that feels good to me. I keep the business hours I want, provide treatment to the populations that resonate with me, and have an established rate that supports my worth. I highly recommend Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business not only for practitioners in their early stages of business development but for experienced practitioners searching to reboot their businesses."

“If you are self-employed and looking for business resources, I highly suggest checking out this resource...that will get you thinking about how you want to hold and grow your business container in a way that supports you so that you can better support your clients."

"
Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business makes the process of building a business manageable and accessible, supporting folks to build business that reflect who they are and what they need and want. Instead of giving rules or some universal format, it provides ways to think about business logistics that are thoughtful to the kinds of businesses we’re trying to create and the individuality of the practitioners. They encourage everyone’s success, knowing that supporting the success of all therapeutic practitioners supports the health and wellness of the larger community. This is a unique and invaluable resource for practice building for therapists of all kinds."
Rebecca Goettsche PhD, Clinical Psychologist

"I was impressed with how carefully Robyn and Kate had considered what to include in their book - many topics (anatomy of a talk, unearned intimacy, ethical considerations) might not normally be included in a primer like this, but they skillfully offered important information and insights that opened my eyes to the importance of considering issues that I might have otherwise ignored. In my opinion, this book is a must-read for anyone who wants to avoid the all-too-common experience of finishing a training filled with excitement, only to exhaust themselves trying to make a business work, and who wants instead to set themselves up for success. Robyn and Kate do all of this with kindness, clarity, and a firm stake in the ground for each of us to create a thriving, fulfilling business that supports us and our clients in so many important ways."

"
Elements is a must-have resource for all practitioners! Robyn and Kate deliver practical tools to bolster your business confidence in a smooth, easy to follow format. Their knowledge and delivery is clear, strong, and transformative. If you are in business for yourself at any stage of the game - you need this book! "
Sarah Grace, Licensed Paramedic, Medical Intuitive, and Best-Selling Author

"This book doesn’t leave a stone unturned! It is filled with many valuable tools to help develop, shape, and build a therapeutic business. As a family childcare provider of 27 years, I could relate to many elements in this book. This book was an excellent refresher for checking in with myself about my current business container. It also provided new ideas for growth and expansion in sharing my wisdom and skills. I think this book would not only benefit CranioSacral therapists, but other business owners such as clinical therapists, childcare providers, hair stylists, tutors, and any other entrepreneurs offering a specific service to the public, as well. Kate and Robyn did a superb job in sharing their knowledge, experiences, and wisdom to aide others in their business endeavors."
Renee Dangler, Early Childhood Educator

"I was honored to be one of the first people to read this amazing book! If you have a small business- Cranial Sacral, Reiki, Massage... all of them ... read this book to help you go to the next level of your business! I just wish I could have read it when I was starting mine! Thank you, Kate Mackinnon & Robyn Scherr!"
Chellie Kammermeyer, InnerCompass Reiki

“Robyn and Kate show us how to find a consistent joy in our businesses...
Elements is a very practical and useful guide for both newer and established practitioners.”
Ryan Hallford BCST, teacher and founder of The Craniosacral Podcast

"Every entrepreneur should read
Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Business! It gives you all the information you need to create a successful business, which both Robyn and Kate have done magnificently. More than the tools to create a business, it is also a guide to take care of yourself in the process. And to me that is priceless."
